The official tourism page states that, from 1 January 2026, the visitor tax (Kurtaxe) is charged per person per stay day, including VAT: EUR 3.50 in Kurbezirk I (the main Bad Mergentheim town area, excluding the Willinger Tal campsite area and including the adjoining part of Löffelstelzen) and EUR 2.30 in Kurbezirk II (the remainder of the municipality). The requested standard rate is reported as EUR 3.50; the applicable rate depends on the accommodation's district. Reductions and exemptions may be granted on application at arrival.
Under the municipal bylaw, exemptions include children under 18; free family visits hosted by residents; ill or severely disabled persons unable to use spa facilities/events (with medical proof); qualifying one-night tour groups of at least 15; and companions in acute-care clinics. On application, exemptions can cover business travelers, conference/training/course and sports-event participants during the event, town-twinning visitors, and companions required by severely disabled persons. A 30% reduction applies on application to persons with a degree of disability of at least 80%; qualifying groups of at least 15 receive 50% off. Applications generally must be made within three working days of arrival.
Anyone who accommodates guests for payment, provides a campsite or (second) home as a holiday rental to non-residents for payment, must register and deregister guests within one day of arrival/departure. Hosts must transmit the prescribed guest data (name, address, date of birth, arrival/departure, and—where relevant—disability status or place of work) using the municipality's forms/software, no later than the day of arrival. They collect the tax from liable guests, remit it to the Kurverwaltung (the city's paying office) by the 15th of the following month, and report refusals to pay immediately. No separate registration-number, Wohnraumschutz or Zweckentfremdungsverbot requirement is stated in the reviewed bylaw.
