As of 5 November 2026, the standard visitor tax is €3.30 per person per stay day, year-round. The day of arrival and day of departure together count as one stay day. The amount includes free local public transport throughout the Black Forest under the KONUS model; €0.47 net of the amount is allocated to KONUS. Residents of Baiersbronn whose main personal-life connections are elsewhere pay a flat annual tax of €111 per person, which does not include free KONUS transport. The tax is normally collected by the accommodation provider and is not usually included in the accommodation price.
Exemptions include children under 18; family visitors staying free in a resident’s household who do not use spa facilities or attend events (except visitors of residents who are themselves subject to the annual tax); school residential-trip participants; residents of Baiersbronn’s partner towns Midhurst and Nogent-le-Rotrou; people from outside the municipality and qualifying residents who work or are in training in Baiersbronn; and bedbound patients in acute hospitals. On application, exemption is available to severely disabled or ill persons with a 100% disability rating who demonstrably require an accompanying person and cannot use the facilities/events, persons with the 'H' disability-card marker, and medically certified accompanying persons who do not use the facilities/events. Patients of specialist clinics with limited use may receive a 20% reduction if the clinic provides proof. Attendance at conferences or other events for professional reasons remains taxable.
For paid accommodation, campsites, and private holiday apartments made available to non-residents for payment, the host must register and deregister guests within three days of arrival and departure. Participating Schwarzwald Plus establishments report to Schwarzwald Plus GmbH. Travel companies must report within three days when their passenger price includes the visitor tax. Guests staying free of charge must register within three days of arrival and deregister by the last day. Municipal forms must be used; the guest completes the form and the host signs and submits it. The host must collect the tax from taxable guests and remit it to the municipality, is liable for complete and correct collection, and must provide required information on request. The reviewed official Kurtaxesatzung does not specify a registration-number requirement or a separate Wohnraumschutz/Zweckentfremdungsverbot rule for short-term rentals.
