Braunlage charges a visitor contribution (Gästebeitrag) per person and overnight stay. The standard adult rate is EUR 3.05 for persons aged 18 and over. Children aged 6–17 pay EUR 1.70; children under 6 are free. The contribution supports tourist infrastructure and includes the visitor card, which also functions as the Harz Guest Card and enables free HATIX local public transport during the registered stay.
Children under 6 and severely disabled persons with a degree of disability of 100% are exempt. Children aged 6–17 pay the reduced rate of EUR 1.70. Severely disabled persons aged 18+ with a degree of disability of 70–90% pay EUR 2.24; those aged 6–17 pay EUR 1.30. An accompanying person of a severely disabled guest whose official ID states that constant assistance is required receives a 30% reduction. The second and each subsequent child in a family up to completion of age 18 is free.
The official host guidance does not state a registration-number, housing-protection, or change-of-use prohibition requirement. It does require anyone accommodating guests in the levy area to record the guest’s surname and first name, address, expected stay, and granted reductions in the Tourist Information’s electronic registration/visitor-contribution system; transmit the data; collect the visitor contribution; and issue the visitor card and coupon booklet. The official material reviewed does not specify a separate short-term-rental registration number.
