Baltrum levies a year-round guest contribution (Gästebeitrag/Kurbeitrag). The standard overnight rate is €3.50 per adult (18+) per night during the season, 15 March–31 October. Outside the season (31 October–15 March), the adult overnight rate is €1.75. Children aged 6–17 pay €1.50 per night in season and €0.75 outside the season; children under 6 are exempt. Day rates are €3.00/€1.50 for adults and €1.00/€0.50 for children (season/outside season). An annual contribution is €105 per adult and €45 per child. A separate dog charge is €1.50 per day, with a €45 annual option.
Exempt are children under 6; certain unpaid family visitors staying in the household of a resident or person working/training in Baltrum; participants in the voluntary social or ecological year (FSJ/FÖJ); accompanying persons of severely disabled persons who officially require an accompanying person (disability pass mark B); and sailors/sport-boat users entering the port because of a danger situation, for the duration of that situation. Persons with a degree of disability of at least 80% pay 75% of the applicable contribution. Closed groups of children/youth aged 6–17, including supervisors, pay 80% when staying in specified youth or similar accommodation or at a campsite. A person staying solely for work is not liable for the guest contribution.
For short-term accommodation, the host (Unterkunftgeber)—including paid temporary landlords, second-home owners, campsite/boat-space operators and relevant travel companies—must issue a fully completed guest card within 24 hours via the municipality’s online portal, collect the guest contribution and remit it to the municipality. Guests must be registered with the municipality via the online portal; in cases of undue hardship, the municipality may allow the paper alternative within three working days. Amounts withheld for a month must be remitted by the 15th of the following month, and the statute must be displayed in rented premises. Baltrum also publishes a separate official “Zweckentfremdungssatzung” dated 11 August 2026 concerning protection against the misuse of housing. The accessible official notice confirms that ordinance, but does not expose its detailed permit or registration-number provisions; no official Baltrum registration-number requirement was verified.
