Ostseebad Binz
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (MV) · Baltic Sea Coast (Rügen)
€ 3.40
per person / night

Rate structure & calculation

Ostseebad Binz levies the Kurabgabe year-round. The standard liable-person rate is €3.40 per person per stay day; the arrival and departure days each count as one stay day. Day visitors also pay €3.40. Instead of the daily charge, a person may purchase an annual guest card for €102 per calendar year, calculated on 30 stay days. The rates include applicable VAT. The current consolidated bylaw does not provide separate high- and low-season rates.

Exemptions & reductions

Children until the day before their third birthday and persons with a degree of disability of 100 (upon presentation of the relevant ID) are exempt. Residents of Binz and persons working, training or serving in Binz, or staying there predominantly for professional reasons (for example on a business trip), are not treated as non-local and therefore are not liable. A case-by-case full or partial waiver may be granted where collection would create a special social or unreasonable hardship.

Short-term rental & host rules

For the Kurabgabe, anyone hosting guests or making accommodation available for recreational purposes—including holiday apartments/houses, private accommodation, campsites and similar lodging—is a Quartiergeber (accommodation provider). The provider must use the municipality’s guest-registration forms or, after prior registration, its authorised electronic reporting system; ensure the guest completes the statutory arrival registration; collect the full intended-stay Kurabgabe on arrival; issue the guest card; retain monthly ordered forms through the end of the following calendar year; by the fifth day of each month send the previous month’s forms/data and remit the tax; keep a guest register; provide it and truthful information on request; and display the current bylaw. The provider is jointly liable for the tax and can be fined up to €5,000 for violations. The reviewed official sources do not state a host registration-number requirement or a general Zweckentfremdungsverbot. Separately, within the defined Binz preservation-statute area, converting a dwelling or other qualifying use into holiday accommodation/guest rooms requires approval under §172 BauGB; the municipality’s guidance says a change-of-use application is required and identifies Landkreis Vorpommern-Rügen as the competent building authority. Existing lawfully approved holiday apartments may continue under Bestandsschutz.
